A fun spiritual successor to Ghost Master. The option to either kill or scare off victims is a nice touch, and the game provides a solid foundation that will hopefully continue to expand in the future. It’s also a nice, easy game to 100% complete.

At times, though, Ghost Keeper holds the player’s hand a little too much when directing how to unlock new ghosts instead of letting the puzzles be solved naturally. Pun only slightly intended. The ghost powers in Ghost Keeper are much darker in tone than those in Ghost Master, giving Ghost Keeper a more genuinely sinister atmosphere. The graphics are also a welcome improvement, especially since going back to the original Ghost Master can be a little rough on the eyes these days. Some human NPCs occasionally get stuck in their “frozen with fear” behavior and need to be knocked out of it with an interrupt power. The biggest drawback is simply that the game is far too short.

The Early Access label is encouraging because it suggests more missions—and hopefully more ghosts—are planned for future updates. The Ghost Master vibe is present from the very beginning, although with a slightly less comedic tone. The first impression is almost like Ghost Master Remastered, but that impression quickly fades because there are quite a few meaningful changes. Finally, mortals can actually be killed, and ghost powers now include detailed descriptions explaining exactly how they work. Those are easily two of the game’s biggest improvements.
