Pokémon scalpers are a plague on the community. They incite violence and theft, and generally make what should be a fun space feel toxic and costly. But sometimes, only sometimes, their antics are actually kinda funny, and that’s what happened at a Pasadena Best Buy when someone was literally hiding inside the store waiting for their chance to be first in line for a new Pokémon card drop.
A group of fans (and scalpers, probably) were lined up in front of the Best Buy location yesterday, April 29 when, to their surprise, local law enforcement drove up to respond to a tip that a man was hiding inside the closed store, seemingly waiting for the cards to go on sale when the store opened in the morning. NBCLA had a quick segment on the story that aired yesterday evening. You can check it out below:
It doesn’t sound like anyone was hurt, but the man was arrested and thus unable to swoop in and buy the cards. We clown on these grown-ass men for ruining the hobby for everyone else, but if I didn’t think this man had every intention of causing trouble for customers when the store finally opened I’d have to admire the commitment. Thankfully his plan was foiled, much like the foil cards he failed to make off with.
