How to Beat Sawhalanthropus in Super Meat Boy 3D

Super Meat Boy 3D isn't bringing a ton of new things to the party besides the game being in a new perspective, but it is still thankfully a great time. One way Team Meat did switch things up when bringing the game to 3D was by adding some pretty intimidating, hulking boss encounters to the fray as well.

Bringing the pain and precision to a whole new dimension.

None of the bosses in the game are really "fights," but moreso, encounters or experiences where, typically, all you need to do to win is survive long enough to outlast your foe.

In the first world of Super Meat Boy 3D, The Forest, the area will be capped off with Sawhalanthropus, a giant, chainsaw-wielding robot that's ready to chase you down and cut you down to (an even smaller) size.

If you're having trouble with this one, here's how to win.

Boss Video Guide

Truth be told, beating this boss in SMB3D is really all about learning the proper routing/pathing. There aren't a ton of tips to really offer outside of that. As such, a video guide, like the one directly above, is probably your best bet.

In this video, you'll be able to see how I took down Sawhalanthropus, which should aid you in figuring it out for yourself as well.

How to Beat Sawhalanthropus

Of course, if you prefer text-based guides, I've got you covered there too. This fight starts off with Meat Boy needing to travel towards the right edge of the screen. Just be careful, as if you get too far ahead of the auto-scrolling nature of this boss, the laser wall at the end will kill you and force you to restart.

The boss' chainsaw on the right of the screen will swipe towards you, then sweep back from behind. Jump both while platforming to the right as you can.

In the next larger open area, AoE missile targets will populate on the ground. Stay in the middle to dodge, while also making sure to jump over the robot's chainsaw coming towards you again.

From here, it's pretty much the same thing as you keep moving right. Dodge the chainsaws, stay out of the AoEs, and keep platforming right until you reach the last sequence of the boss.

Keep in mind that the last chainsaw swipe that the boss makes lingers for an extra couple seconds above your next platform, so try to exercise some patience here if you don't want to be sawed in half.

Finally, you'll just have to make it up a few more platforms, now moving vertically. Mind that there will still be incoming missiles, so you can't dilly-dally. Also note that if you'd like, you can jump and dash from the first platform on the right directly to the second one, completely omitting the left one.

Reach the end, then jump into the boss to win and move on to World 2, The Wastes.
