Take advantage of status effects in No Rest for the Wicked.
You can craft a wide variety of weapons and armor in the game, giving you access to a large build potential for any character you wish to play. Of course, crafting isn't as simple as it sounds.
Let's break down everything you need to know about crafting in No Rest for the Wicked, so you can make any item you want.
Unlocking Crafting Recipes
Before you can craft an item, you need to learn how to make it, which means that you need to unlock the crafting recipe for said item. There are numerous crafting recipes, and to unlock them, you will need to get your hands on Research Papers.
Once you have Research Papers in your inventory, you can use them at the Scribe Table in the town center of Sacrament to unlock crafting recipes. Depending on the crafting, this can cost one Research Paper or multiple, so make sure you have a stockpile of them.
It helps if you are playing in a world that is shared with your friends. This is because when a friend unlocks a crafting recipe, it becomes cheaper for you to unlock it.
To unlock a recipe, go to the scribe table, select the type of recipe you wish to learn, and pay the required Research Papers to learn a random recipe of that item type. If a recipe has already been unlocked by a friend, you can select to learn it instead.
Some recipes may only be unlocked if you have upgraded your town enough to craft them. For instance, the Ash Soothed Daggers can only be crafted at a Forged Anvil, meaning you will need to upgrade Fillmore's Smithy to unlock it unless you unlock it via random selection.

Crafting Items at Workbenches
Now that you have unlocked a crafting recipe, you need to craft the item you want. This can be done at various crafting tables around town. The crafting recipe at the scribe table will tell you what crafting bench is required to build the item.
Many of the weapons are crafted using the Forged Anvil or Crude Anvil, but some weapons, like bows, require the Builder's Workbench. These workbenches can be found near their respective merchants. For instance, the Forged Anvil can be found in Fillmore's Smithy.
Of course, not all the workshop benches are available. Because of this, it is important to learn how to build these workbenches and place them inside your home.
Once you have the required workbench, interact with it, choose the type of item you wish to build, and then select the item. In the crafting menu, you will see the list of crafting materials needed to build the item.
For instance, building the Answered Prayer bow requires Iron Ingot, Spruce Planks, and Human Hands. These items are collected all around the map, and many of them require tools.
Select the item to craft it when you have the materials. Afterward, it will be placed in your inventory. From here, you can use Embers to turn these standard weapons into magical items through enchantment.
