How to Free Onix in Pokémon Pokopia

There are plenty of friends to make in Pokémon Pokopia. After all, the game is basically a combination of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Minecraft.

With that being said, not all the Pokémon are easy to find in the game. Some of them require you to build specific habitats, and others are hidden in the world. Onix is one of the Pokémon you will need to search for and then rescue from deep inside a cave.

Let's break down how to free Onix from the cave in Pokémon Pokopia, so you can make another new friend.

Where to Find Onix

Unlike most of the Pokémon that you will encounter in Pokémon Pokopia, you will need to go out of your way to search for Onix, and the Pokémon happens to be near the Pokémon Center.

When looking at the Pokémon Center, turn to the left and go to where you encountered Scyther. There are two routes that you can take from here to find Onix.

First, you can use Rock Smash to destroy the ground diagonal from the tree where you encountered Scyther. There is a small gap here that you can see the cave through.

Second, you can destroy the blocks on the road near the same area as the cave. This will lead you to the beach, which has another opening to the cave where Onix is located.

Journey through this cave system until you see a speech bubble of someone crying out for help. Follow this speech bubble to locate Onix, who is trapped behind some extra hard rocks that are impossible to break.

Onix will tell you about its predicament and ask for your aid in helping it break free from its rocky prison. Unfortunately, you won't be able to break the rocks, so you will need to think of a different way.

Finding a Slowpoke

After speaking to Onix, you will need to return to Professor Tangrowth, who will request your aid in reaching the beach near where you started your journey in the cozy game. Once there, you will find some ruins of the humans who once lived in the area.

Once you have completed the task for Tangrowth, they will help you with the Onix situation, calling a meeting of the various Pokémon you have met to see what ideas everyone can come up with.

The group will decide that you need a Slowpoke. This is because Slowpoke can make it rain, causing the rocks to become breakable.

To find a Slowpoke, you will need to create a Seaside Tall Grass Habitat. This is done by placing at least four tall grass blocks next to the ocean. After a while, Slowpoke will appear in the area.

Once you have found Slowpoke, you will need to build stairs to help the Pokémon reach Professor Tangrowth. Build stairs where all the blocks differ in height to help Slowpoke walk to Tangrowth.

Raising the Humidity

To make it rain, Slowpoke needs to yawn with enough potency that the rain starts to pour. To do this, you will need to make the surrounding area more humid.

There are a few ways to help increase the humidity in the air:

• Water the ground
• Plant seeds and have a Pokémon like Bulbasaur help them grow
• Create ponds
• Add decor like fountains
• Creating a Rain Dance Site

The Pokémon you have discovered up to this point, such as Bulbasaur and Squirtle, will help you increase the humidity through requests as well. Once it is humid enough, you can have Slowpoke Yawn to have it start raining.

The rain won't last long, but that is okay, because Kyogre will appear in the ocean. Talk to Kyrogre to make it rain once more.

Freeing Onix

Now that it is raining, return to the spot where you found Onix. The Pokémon should tell you that the ground has softened to the point it can be broken.

Now, you can use your Rock Smash ability to break the clay bricks blocking Onix's path out of the cave. When you have destroyed enough bricks, Onix will tell you that they can escape on their own, and you can return to Professor Tangrowth to continue your journey.
