Where to mine for iron ore

Finding iron in Hytale seems difficult, but it's easier than you might think. Though not quite as common as copper ore, it won't take hours to find your first iron veins if you're willing to explore some of Hytale's deeper and darker areas. Be sure to bring a weapon with you!

How to find iron ore in Hytale

Similar to Hytale's copper, iron ore is found inside caves, though it is much rarer. Iron veins look like shiny, silvery-grey rectangles that grow on cobblestone blocks. Break the blocks with a pickaxe (you don't need a copper pickaxe; a crude one is enough), and you can pick up the iron ore.

Iron ore shows a slight shimmer when you approach it inside a dark cave system, so keep your eyes peeled! As iron ore isn't quite as common as copper, you may have to venture much deeper into a cave system to find some. It is therefore important to bring a weapon, such as a crude sword, as there's a good chance you'll run into spiders, rats, or even more dangerous underground beasties. Grab some HP-restoring foods and torches as well.

If you're having trouble finding caves in Hytale, it's helpful to open your map and look for cave-like structures. Anything that looks like a small chasm has a good chance of being a cave entrance. On this map, the following locations led to iron veins, with the largest one (second from the right) containing plenty of iron ore near the entrance:

Alternatively, you can also find a mineshaft that will lead you directly into a cave system. Mineshafts can come in all shapes and sizes, and they'll vary depending on what environment you're in. However, an easy way to spot one on the map is to look for a building directly next to a hole. Additionally, they'll always have minecarts and railroads around the building.

How to get iron ingots in Hytale

To craft iron ingots in Hytale, smelt your iron ore in a furnace. In case you haven't used one before, you must place a workbench first, then use six pieces of wood and stone in the "tools" tab to craft the furnace. You don't need any furnace upgrades, but you do need some wood to fuel the furnace and wait for the smelting process to finish.
