If you're a fan of superheroes or comic books, there's probably never been a more exciting time than right now. Properties from across the entire industry are being supported and adapted, which means that no matter what genre you like, chances are something is out there for you.
Traditional heroism is well represented in the MCU and James Gunn's DCU, but beyond that, independent comics are also forming some of the most compelling superhero media today. Invincible is one of those properties.

10 Best Video Games Based On Comics That Aren't Marvel Or DC
Marvel and DC may rule the roost, but the big two aren't a factor in this list.
This ultra violent, supremely entertaining indie superhero comic written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has become the basis for a spectacular animated series on Amazon Prime. Now, it's the basis for an equally bloody fighting game known as Invincible VS.
First announced at the Xbox Summer Showcase in June 2025, Invincible VS was promoted as a faithful recreation of the violent, gory madness that the comic and animated show are known for. Alongside a fully-voiced and animated single-player story mode, Invincible VS is also being built to compete in the fighting game tournament scene.
There's a lot of passion and will being put into this project, which is something that's clear both in its execution and the polished action on display. Much like the superheroes and villains in the show and comic, Invincible VS doesn't pull any punches.
That's the Neat Part
Invincible VS comes packed with quite a bit of impressive content for a fighting game. Single-player story modes in fighting games aren't exactly rare, but a lot of them have a tendency to feel a little phoned in. I found myself pleasantly surprised by the story mode in Invincible VS.
Written in collaboration with the writing staff of the animated show, the story mode in Invincible VS is genuinely fantastic. Having the crew from the TV show involved really gives it an extra layer of authenticity and honesty that it may not have had otherwise, as it really goes out of its way to feel like an episode of the show. There are a lot of tiny eccentricities from the Amazon Prime show that are present, which is always appreciated.
What's really so enjoyable in the story mode, outside the fights themselves, is the animation and voice work in the cutscenes. The animation is breathtaking, with some beautifully designed character models and fights that are simply jaw-dropping. It really is one of the best single-player campaigns I've ever played in a fighting game. The transition from fights to cutscenes is perfect, with each one supporting and complimenting the other.
Having the crew from the TV show involved really gives it an extra layer of authenticity and honesty that it may not have had otherwise, as it really goes out of its way to feel like an episode of the show.
What's rather disappointing, however, is that while most members of the cast are present and doing their thing, it's missing a few key voices. It's not the worst thing in the world, and the voice direction is remarkably strong, but it's still a bit of a let-down. I certainly got used to it rather quickly, but if you're a fan of the show, it may be a bit odd to hear at first.
Tag Team Champs
Invincible VS is a 3-on-3 affair, as you go into fights with three characters at your disposal. It's not dissimilar to other tag fighters like Marvel vs Capcom or Tekken Tag Tournament, where each fighter acts almost like an extra layer of protection. Thankfully, the character selection is outstanding and grants you access to Invincible's most endearing heroes and villains, including a brand-new, original fighter created by Robert Kirkman known as Ella Mental.
The variety between characters is truly wonderful. Thanks to the expansive roster of the TV show, Invincible VS is able to pack its fighter list with a nice mix of heavy hitters, quick strikers and everything in between. So much of enjoying a fighting game is built around finding a character that fits your style, and I didn't have much trouble finding someone who really resonated with me.
Once you've selected your team, that's when the fun really begins. Invincible is built around creating an escalating pace and flow of combat, and this is done in a few key ways. The first is the way that the AI seems to react to you rather intelligently, and it will attempt to either match or exceed your pace.
Every fight I experienced in Invincible VS felt like the AI reacting to me, and me doing the same. If I was aggressive, the AI would find a way to keep up with me, but would also become more uptempo and force me to match its pace. This really keeps the flow of fights feeling natural, as no encounter ever really feels the same.
Invincible VS also uses some fantastic visual direction to keep you on your toes. The show is well-known for its reliance on blood, violence and gore, which is perfectly represented here. As battles wear on, and fighters take damage, they will become more and more bloody.
If you're not paying attention to your health bar, the game will let you know just how well you're doing by the state of your character. It really lets you modulate your strategy in real-time, which is incredibly fun.
I'm a Scrub, You're a Scrub
In addition to its single-player mode, Invincible VS has some other bells and whistles worth talking about. A classic arcade mode is available if you just want to smash some people around, and you can increase the number of rounds depending on which version you select.
Online is fairly standard, offering casual and ranked online modes. It's not anything groundbreaking, but there's not much to do with this style of game beyond these modes. It does offer custom loadouts and unique costumes, however. So there's quite a bit on offer in terms of how you approach a match online. Arcade stick support is also included, so things can feel a bit more authentic if you'd like.
Thanks to the expansive roster of the TV show, Invincible VS is able to pack its fighter list with a nice mix of heavy hitters, quick strikers and everything in between.
Invincible VS runs at a blistering speed. It targets, and stays firmly locked, at 60 FPS. I had absolutely no dropped frames or issues, and the game always felt like it was running absolutely flawlessly. That's fairly important for a fighting game, and Invincible VS hits its targets to perfection.
2026 is going to be quite a big year for fighting games, as multiple firmly established titles are getting big updates alongside some new titles. Whether Invincible VS will be able to compete with those games long-term remains to be seen, but it's still going to be one to watch, especially with EVO 2026 just a couple of months away.
Invincible VS is a brilliantly brutal extension of the comic and Amazon Prime cartoon, offering up visceral, fluid battling and a genuinely entertaining single-player mode. The AI feels incredibly smart, adjusting its strategies mid-fight and creating a fluid pace for combat. It is missing a few key actors, but everyone does such a wonderful job, it doesn't hurt that badly. If you're looking for a way to pass the time until season 5 of the show hits in 2027, Invincible VS is a bloody good time.
