Usama Mehmood is a writer who has done extensive work for previous publications, including Ranking Lists, Reviews, and even Featured Pieces. This allowed him to quickly pursue a position as an Editor during his former tenure, managing different teams and their content delivery whilst continuing to provide further expertise from his own written work.

He specializes in a variety of AAA and multiplayer titles; from spending countless hours with Sam and BB in Death Stranding to plowing through the latest raid boss with his clan mates in Destiny 2, there's a lot for him to enjoy about the gaming industry.

Life is Strange: Reunion is the continuation of Max's modern journey from Double Exposure, but unlike previously, where we had a mere couple of choices to start us off, this final adventure of hers and Chloe has an assortment of new starting choices for you to pick.

You have the complementary Bay or Bae choices, with both separated in case you want a bestie version of Chloe who distanced herself. This time, you also have other additions, such as the romance partners from the previous entry, as well as whether you supported Safi in her ending moments of Double Exposure.

Life is Strange: Reunion Review

We're truly in the Pricefield endgame with this one.

To someone who dared not touch the previous game, a couple of these might throw them off the loop on which one seems more validating. But you'd be surprised at how much these choices influence your playthrough. Want to know more about it in detail? Stick around with this guide, where I explain each of the starting choices in Life is Strange: Reunion.

What Are the Starting Choices?

life is strange reunion starting choices list

In Life is Strange: Reunion, you have a total of five different starting options for your playthrough, which are dubbed "Max's Relationships." Each of these is based on five different base parameters, listed in order on the menu screen: Amanda Thomas, Chloe Price, Max and Chloe, Safi, Vinh.

Selecting each of these options will allow you to pick from two different choices to format them into, depending on your preference:

Relationships

Options

Amanda Thomas

Romanced Amanda OR Friends with Amanda

Chloe Price

Chloe Died in Arcadia Bay OR Chloe Survived Arcadia Bay

Max and Chloe

Romanced Chloe OR Friends with Chloe

Safiya Llewellyn-Fayyad

Supported Safi OR Rejected Safi

Vinh Lang

Romanced Vinh OR Friends with Vinh

Every Starting Choice Explained

Amanda Thomas

Amanda is the bar manager at the Snapping Turtle near Caledon University. During LiS: Double Exposure, you had the chance to become great friends with her or pursue romantic relations. Now, depending on which one you pick here for your follow-up adventure in Reunion, things can seem a bit bittersweet.

If you romanced Amanda, there is a dialogue instance where Max will acknowledge the time she spent with her prior to the events of this game with Moses early on in the game. But ultimately, both she and Amanda break up because things don't work out, especially with Max's powers in the mix. You can also catch her and Chloe talking about Max, or Chloe bringing it up to Max, in their conversations about dating anyone else thereafter.

And, much like everyone else, Amanda doesn't recall Max's powers again due to her "Storm Amnesia," AKA this game's clever retconning of everyone's memories of Max saving them. If you choose to stay friends, well, there isn't much here other than Max and Amanda being besties in their text messages.

Vinh Lang

Figured we would go over Mr. Hotshot Assistant himself, Vinh Lang. Much like Amanda, you can choose to bond or engage in a romantic relationship with Vinh during the previous game. Unfortunately, the starting choice is pretty much the same as Amanda's, with a few exceptions if you romanced him.

Picking the romance option here lets you see how Max and Vinh's differences led to their breakup. As well as text messages that indicate their short-lived romance. The few dialogue moments with Vinh and Chloe will also slightly reference this relationship, but outside of that, nothing much consequential to add here that can drastically alter your playthrough.

Chloe Price

Everyone's favorite blue-haired girl, myself included, in case it wasn't obvious from my review. This is probably the most consequential of the starting choices in Life is Strange: Reunion. Not to mention, if you're going for the 100% Completion/Platinum Trophy, you'll be required to do a playthrough under both instances here.

Chloe dying in Arcadia Bay means that Max's version of Chloe wasn't the one that she broke up with or got to go on an adventure across the Midwest with. The Chloe that you'll get to play with will periodically acknowledge how she isn't the one Max had been with prior, as well as have a few varied dialogue moments where they talk about the aftermath of her death.

If you pick Chloe, who survived Arcadia Bay, you get treated to moments of them reminiscing about the time before they got separated or distanced themselves from each other. Both Max and Chloe also talk as if they spend a large amount of time with each other.

Max and Chloe

This one directly factors in, or should I say, goes hand-in-hand with the aforementioned choice of having Chloe stay alive or not. But we'll stay focused on how this affects things.

If you choose to be friends with Chloe, they'll talk about their time spent together in a more platonic manner, as opposed to having any romantic feelings for each other. Pretty simple stuff, but one that I won't delve deeper into because you should see the dialogue differences yourself, as well as the differences in the journal entries for both characters, since picking between Chloe being alive or not can influence this to an extent.

Lastly, picking the romance option is for Pricefield shippers like me. Throughout the game, Max and Chloe will try to reconcile their relationship or the fallout of it, at least.

And honestly, it isn't perfect, but I will say it is one of the best representations of two people trying to forgive each other, themselves, and trying to repair the damage they left to each other. And for that, you CAN (or should) try to forgive DeckNine after what they did in Double Exposure.

Safi

Finally, whether you decide to support Safi or not is kind of a technical one. For one, her whole quest to find others like her was likely sidelined or retconned, as well as the inclusion of Diamond from the previous entry. So the concern of whether you support or not feels bare-bones here, since, again, that whole plot element is BARELY brought up at all.

However, there is a section towards the end of Reunion involving Safi where this choice can influence her relationship parameters and ultimately determine her fate.

I recommend sticking to supporting her, but if you want, you can oppose these actions, since they mainly just make Safi more resentful towards Max, as well as some dialogue about the ending of Double Exposure, which, again, I won't spoil here.
