Laurence is an avid writer, gamer, and traveller with several years of journalistic writing experience under his belt. Having helped create a student-focused magazine at university, he is keen to reach the gaming community with his guides and game reviews.

Whether it's trudging through the world of Elden Ring, or grinding out raids in Old School Runescape, Laurence is always up for a challenge. However, in real life, his current challenge is learning how to speak Spanish and cooking authentic Mexican cuisine.

Marathon is here, folks, and in the grim yet surprisingly colorful world of Tau Ceti, there are plenty of contracts to hold your attention while you dodge the oncoming bullets of bloodthirsty Runners.

Unlike many other extractions shooters, Marathon is extremely PvP heavy, so while you’re completing these special corporate missions, you’re going to want to watch your back for both real players and NPC combatants.

NuCaloric is one of the many factions that are vying for your attention, so if you want to build a good reputation with them, it’s time to complete some contracts!

Quest Walkthrough

In your first contract with Nucaloric, you’ll need to head to the Perimeter map, which is likely the first map that you’ll have properly discovered.

In the far south of this map is the Columns sub-area. As soon as you spawn, you can either make a beeline for this and get your objectives done as quickly as possible, or wait for a bit later in the map, when other Runners have already cleared the area. If you see another player, well, chances are it’s light out for one of you.

Marathon Tick Nest

Make sure you have plenty of ammo for this area. If you run out, you’ll have to melee the ticks and their nests.

In the columns area, there’s a small building that’s been infested by ticks, the little red self-destructing insects that love to jump out of the walls at you. It’s up to you to breach this cabin and retrieve the info from within.

This guide explains how to play as Vandal in Marathon.

Firstly, destroy the surrounding tick nests, the red bulbous-looking clusters stuck to the outside walls. The ticks will spawn indefinitely if you don’t destroy them, so they’re a priority. On the southeast corner, you’ll notice a door, but you can’t get in this way.

Marathon Roof Grate

Make your way to the roof, and look for the small grate above. Melee this, as you did in the starting tutorial, and drop inside. Next to the door, you’ll see a little rectangle with the option to restart the power.

Either head right in, or use the door from the outside and clear out the ticks and nests within. There should be around 3 nests inside. In the northwest corner of the building, you’ll find an employee ID. Once you’ve grabbed this, go to the terminal in the same room and download the data from the computer.

Marathon Terminal

Once you’re done with this, you’re all done, and you can extract as soon as you wish. You can open the shutters and escape through the broken windows if you need a new getaway.

You don’t actually have to successfully escape the map to complete this mission. Even if you die, the contract will still be considered completed.

Quest Rewards

Marathon CYAC Rewards

For completing this quest, you will earn 90 CyAc Reputation for each objective completed. Chances are, this will upgrade your Rank with them and offer you bonus rewards such as:

  • Credits
  • Shield Implants
  • Health & Shield supplies

In addition, you can now establish a link with Nucaloric, allowing you to complete special contracts with them in the future.
