The arts company Meow Wolf operates five surreal immersive installations throughout the U.S., which visitors can explore to uncover a bizarre storyline including psychic powers and interdimensional portals. Now you’ll be able to step into that weird world without traveling to Las Vegas or Houston through Tavers: The Meow Wolf Roleplaying Game, which launched a Kickstarter campaign on March 4 and more than doubled its goal of raising $50,000 within the first 24 hours.

Tavers is designed by Exalted Funeral, the Ennie-winning publishers of Land of Eem and Monty Python’s Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme. Players will take on the role of tavers, people with the power to open portals and bend reality by harnessing raw creative energy. The core book includes five story arcs incorporating characters and locations from Meow Wolf’s installations. These involve space truckers, slimes, and a transdimensional hamster kaiju.

There are pregenerated characters and simple rules to help Meow Wolf enthusiasts who have never played a TTRPG, while players who enjoy games focused on worldbuilding and storytelling will be able to jump in without knowing any Meow Wolf lore. Tavers gets across Meow Wolf’s arts and crafts feel by having players and storytellers share a sheet to take notes and draw on, along with turning items into Tetris-like blocks that must fit into a box on your personal character sheet.

A $295 pledge tier that included a pair of exclusive early access tickets to the upcoming Los Angeles Meow Wolf exhibit has already sold out, scooped up by 50 early backers. If you back the game by midnight ET March 6, you’ll get a free d8 embroidered patch from Meow Wolf principal designer Luke Dorman. The campaign runs through April 4, and the books and add-on accessories, including tokens, dice, and an original soundtrack, are expected to be delivered in December 2026.
