It's never been a better time to be a fan of Minecraft. Minecraft Dungeons 2, hailed as the "next chapter" of the treasure-stuffed action RPG, was just announced, and it looks like it'll be just as jam-packed with loot and monsters as its predecessor.

The news was revealed during Minecraft developer Mojang's very first Minecraft Live of 2026, an event showcasing what fans can expect in the upcoming year. Although several announcements were made about future updates to the original Minecraft, the biggest news was undoubtedly Minecraft Dungeons 2. The new game will serve as a sequel to the 2020 original.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be a linear adventure that doesn't include the open-world, mining, or building aspects of Minecraft. Instead, Dungeons is styled as a dungeon crawler in which players (either alone or with friends via local and online multiplayer) fight randomly generated monsters, solve puzzles, and make their way to the dungeon's end to find the all-important treasure. It feels very Dungeons & Dragons, doesn't it?

Minecraft Dungeons 2 will ask you to do the same thing, but with more thrilling challenges, plenty more loot, and never-before-seen locations for players to explore in the Minecraft universe.

An official release date outside 2026 has yet to be confirmed by Mojang, but rest assured that no matter what you game on, you'll be able to hack-and-slash alongside the rest of your friends. Minecraft Dungeons 2 is confirmed to release on PC (Steam and Xbox on PC), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. It will also be available via Microsoft's Game Pass.

Fans of the franchise will also get the opportunity to get lost in the world of Minecraft in real life. Mojang and Merlin Entertainments announced during the presentation that Minecraft World, a theme park experience that will bring Minecraft's environments and gameplay to life, will debut at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London in 2027.
