Luckily for us, 2026 is shaping up to be an incredible year for this subgenre, with several highly anticipated titles set to win over our hearts! Games with stories about friendship, especially when the gameplay itself reflects the bond between characters, are one of my biggest weaknesses – and that is exactly the premise of IKUMA - The Frozen Compass.

The story follows a young boy who works as a ship's assistant and his sled dog as they find themselves stranded after a tragic shipwreck, creating an experience that promises to warm your heart despite the icy setting.

Oh, and a nice touch is that it is directly inspired by a real story: the iconic Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition in 1864, which is still filled with mysteries and myths until this day.

Coziness in Every Shelf

inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories is the kind of game that surely can hypnotize us just with its visual art, and even more so when you discover that the story is about running a small-town convenience store inspired by early 1990s Japan.

Its main goal and idea is to relax while organizing the shop and stocking shelves with no pressure at all, while listening to and silently watching the everyday moments of regular customers as you simply observe them transform into parallel short stories.

Just this description makes me want to curl up under the covers with my Nintendo Switch, grab a cup of hot chocolate, and tell everyone I have an appointment, and I’m extremely busy just so I can disconnect for the day and dive into this experience.

8 Good Boy

A Galaxy of Pups

Described as a creature-collecting Metroidvania, Good Boy places you in a world where dogs live on forever among the stars as Space Rovers – and if you have or have ever had a pet, you know that just this sentence already gives us a warm, fuzzy feeling.

The goal here is to explore different scenarios to catch and research these creatures, while also having the help of canine companions to unravel ancient mysteries about this intriguing world. I mean, I already have my lo-fi playlist ready to accompany this baby.

Also, a quick heads-up: don’t confuse this one with the Good Boy from Terrible Posture Games! That one is a co-op horror title and is definitely not cozy. Stick to the Space Rovers for the good vibes.

Saying goodbye to people simply because life is taking you in different directions is definitely a bittersweet feeling. You are really happy about their growth, but you know you will miss them every day.

And Mixtape is exactly about recreating that feeling of nostalgia through a story about three friends spending one last night together before they part ways. So they put a mixtape on to play, which makes the trio relive some of their best moments together through stylized gameplay segments and an expressive art style.

By doing that, it brings a focus to themes like growth, transformation, and moving on as they revisit fun memories – something that everyone can identify with, for sure.

Nivalis is a management and life simulation game where the player must manage everything from small noodle stands to thriving nightclubs. But it is not all work and no fun, of course, and you also have to manage your social life, foster relationships, decorate your apartment, and even go fishing on your days off.

However, what makes it stand out is its unique cyberpunk aesthetic mixed with a cozy feeling. Instead of the usual farms and stores, you are surrounded by neon signs, futuristic buildings, and truly extravagant characters.

So it seems like a fresh take on the genre that proves you can find peace even in a bustling, high-tech city! I can’t wait to spend hours building my personal empire and decorating my futuristic home in the clouds.

Developed by the same creators of Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk takes its title quite literally, since it is a game about walking, hanging out, and getting lost in a wide-open world.

But this will be done with some friends, since it is a cooperative experience with a walkie-talkie system that leads everyone to face an adventure about teamwork and talking – so just imagine the amount of gossip that will be told inside this game!

Jokes aside, it seems like a profoundly cozy experience. While there are puzzles and challenges to solve as a group, the heart of the game lies in the quiet moments, like sitting together to watch a sunset after a long day of exploring.

4 Coffee Talk Tokyo

Midnight Brews in the Heart of Japan

The Coffee Talk franchise is a staple for cozy gamers for sure, and its newest entry, Coffee Talk Tokyo, takes the series to (yeah, you guessed it, Sherlock) Japan.

Its main idea is to maintain that beloved atmosphere of the previous titles, but also bring a brand-new cast of characters and parallel stories set in the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the coffee table. This means you will find yourself serving hot drinks to a variety of intriguing figures, from salaryman kappas to other mythological youkai.

Also, the setting will directly influence your menu of drinks, allowing you to brew refreshing cold beverages and practice your latte art with new ingredients and designs. All of that will have a brand-new lo-fi soundtrack by Andrew "AJ" Jeremy on the side, just to make sure this title will be your favorite company on a rainy day.

3 TOEM 2

Capturing the Little Wonders

TOEM 2 is the direct sequel to the highly acclaimed TOEM, continuing in the footsteps of its predecessor with a new experience that puts you in the role of a curious photographer who needs to document all the little wonders of the world.

It is set a few years after the original story and promises to enhance everything that was really relaxing about the first adventure, including an interface that features a camera and seems to better convey the feeling of being a photographer – at least according to the trailers.

Also, this time, the world looks even bigger and more filled with tiny secrets, which is what makes the world of TOEM so delightful to explore. Time to find your inner Todd Snap, folks.

2 Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Yoshi’s Story Meets Coziness

I might be a bit biased because Yoshi is my favorite character in the Super Mario universe, but the little green dinosaur is one of the definitions of “cozy” to me. This means that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book quickly became one of my most anticipated titles of the year as soon as it was announced.

And this feeling only grows bigger when you watch its trailer, which reveals that its story takes place inside a fantasy book brought by a character who fell from the sky, giving the game a beautiful storybook aesthetic.

So it looks a lot like a cozy version of Yoshi’s Story, the Nintendo 64 classic, with a stronger narrative focus and encounters with unusual creatures that turn into unique mechanics in each stage. I mean, Nintendo, take my money away.

Often described as a mix between Stardew Valley and Harry Potter among indie fans, Witchbrook is the magical school simulator we have all been waiting for.

As a student at Witchbrook College, your daily life is pretty much balancing your academic magic and social growth. So you will attend classes, learn to master spells, brew potions, and even participate in extracurricular activities like broomstick racing. When you aren't studying, you can explore the town, go fishing, or build relationships with your fellow students.

And, of course, you can’t forget about unraveling the mysteries of the school. Last but definitely not least, you will even be able to join three other players to share the experience of learning magic, which is the cherry on top of what promises to be one of the coziest experiences of 2026.
