It’s been more than a decade since active production of the Naruto Collectible Card Game ended in 2013, but now the franchise is primed for a major TCG reinvention.
On Thursday, Bandai Card Games announced Naruto Card Game, a new trading card game based on Masashi Kishimoto's manga and anime series. The company says the game is a strategy-focused experience aimed at competitive players, with a worldwide launch planned for 2027.
Fans will get their first chance to try the game at Gen Con 2026 in Indianapolis. Bandai plans to host beginner-friendly tutorial sessions at the convention from July 30 through Aug. 2, giving attendees an early look at the game before its official release.
The announcement marks Naruto's return to a dramatically different trading card game landscape than the one it left behind. When the original Naruto CCG was winding down in the early 2010s, anime-based TCGs were still relatively niche within the space. Bandai itself has become one of the industry's biggest players thanks to the success of One Piece Card Game, Digimon Card Game, and Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World. That track record makes Naruto one of the company's most anticipated launches in years.
Alongside the announcement, Bandai released a teaser trailer featuring Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, as well as a commemorative illustration from Kishimoto himself. The creator celebrated the game's reveal in a brief statement.
"I'm glad to see the world of Naruto grow larger once again," Kishimoto said. "I truly hope these cards find their way to both your hands and your hearts."
Bandai has not yet revealed any cards or explained how the game actually works. Those details are expected to arrive on July 29, the day before Gen Con opens, when the company says it will unveil card designs, gameplay information, and a broader roadmap for the game's future.
For now, though, one thing is clear: one of anime's biggest franchises is officially back in the trading card game business.
