Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
Bodycam shooter fans, beware: a brand-new title is on the horizon, and it is arriving much sooner than you might expect!
Publisher MicroProse and developer Monte Gallo have recently announced that Better Than Dead, a tactical FPS set in the claustrophobic urban labyrinths of Hong Kong, will launch in Early Access on May 12. That leaves you with just enough time to clear your schedule and prepare for deployment.
The announcement was accompanied by a visceral new trailer that offers a glimpse into its gritty realism, confirming that the game will be available exclusively for PC via Steam during its initial launch phase. You can witness the tension for yourself below:
Hong Kong as a Canvas for Revenge
The premise of Better Than Dead is as straightforward as it is tense: you step into the shoes of a survivor who is simply tired of running. Armed with a single pistol and a cold-blooded hit list, she sets out to settle the score.
Something quite interesting is how the bodycam perspective doesn’t seem like a stylistic gimmick in this case, but a narrative anchor. That’s because the protagonist is literally using one during the gameplay, so that every step, every shot, and every kill is recorded with the goal of exposing the people responsible for her trauma. Think of it as Kill Bill with high-caliber rounds and a dose of Sleeping Dogs’ gritty atmosphere.
Step into the shoes of a survivor who is simply tired of running. Armed with a single pistol and a cold-blooded hit list, she sets out to settle the score.
Also, this revenge story unfolds across a photo-realistic reimagining of Hong Kong, featuring environments that pay direct homage to the city’s classic action cinema of the ‘80s and ‘90s, meaning you can expect a lot of chaos in the middle of neon-lit restaurants and rain-slicked alleys.
Diving into the gameplay aspect, the gunplay is described as immediate and unforgiving, according to the game’s official Steam page. And you are going to need some nice reflexes to survive, since the experience is focused on tension and firefights, leaving not much room for exploration or side quests. Instead, each level functions as an assault operation with a defined beginning, middle, and end, keeping the pressure at an all-time high throughout.
So yeah, you might want to start prepping that playlist and stocking up on energy drinks now! Better Than Dead hits Steam Early Access on May 12.
