After months of leaks and rumors, CD Projekt Red has finally announced the mythical new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, although the title suggests it could be a prequel of sorts, serving as a bridge to The Witcher 4.

There have been countless rumors over the past year that CD Projekt Red is working on new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, despite the fact that it's over a decade old. It's not like there's any kind of time limit on content, and fans would absolutely line up for more Geralt adventures, considering that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most highly acclaimed video games of all time.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt fans are already in hype mode, considering that there's a planned livestream celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Blood and Wine DLC, which many people thought would be the stage where the new expansion would be announced. Turns out, CD Projekt Red prefers the Nintendo route, and has just shadow-dropped the new DLC announcement on Twitter/X.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs Of The Past DLC Launches 2027

According to CD Projekt Red, the next expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is called Songs of the Past, and it's launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in Summer 2027. Notably, there's no announcement regarding the older consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, nor anything related to the Switch 2.

Songs of the Past is being co-developed by Fools Theory, the company behind the upcoming remake of the original iteration of The Witcher. Maybe The Witcher remake will be heavily based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt engine, which would save a considerable amount of time and development cost, especially as Geralt's fighting style hasn't changed all that much throughout the series.

According to CD Projekt Red, the next expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is called Songs of the Past and it's launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in Summer 2027.

There's no word regarding the content of Songs of the Past, though Geralt is shown being spoken to by a mysterious tree creature. The name suggests that it could be a prequel of sorts, with some supernatural being forcing Geralt to experience quests and moments from his past.

The Witcher 4 and The Witcher remake are a long way off, so it makes sense for CD Projekt Red to want to fill the gap with something relatively easy. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an amazing game with a dedicated fanbase, who will almost certainly be there on day one to check it out, especially considering the bad taste left by the underwhelming final season of the TV show.

The leaks regarding the new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC have stated that it will act as a bridge to The Witcher 4, so Ciri will likely have a significant role to play. At the very least, the game may shed light on what Geralt is up to during The Witcher 4 era, and what great quest Ciri is embarking on. But even if Songs of the Past is just Geralt slashing monsters for hours, fans will be satisfied at the chance to lace up his boots once more.
