Octopath Traveler 0 has a lot going for it, such as amazing turn-based combat, a rich story, and plenty of interactable NPCs. Speaking of NPCs, you can invite them to your village so that they can help you rebuild the town of Wishvale.

RPGs are known for cramming in a lot of different systems, with these games allowing you to build settlements while saving/destroying the world.
Of course, inviting NPCs to your town won't always work, and when it doesn't, or when you mess up in some other way, your reputation will be tarnished. Thankfully, you can fix your reputation for the right price.
Let's break down everything you need to know about reputation in Octopath Traveler 0, so that every town will love you.
What is Reputation?
Your reputation in Octopath Traveler 0 is how the people of each town perceive you. How high your reputation is directly affects whether NPCs will want to interact with you, and how likely you are to succeed when interacting with them.
When you walk up to an NPC and interact with them, you will see a number next to their symbol in the Path Actions menu. This number represents their reputation requirement.
If your reputation is below the number next to the NPC, you will have a more difficult time interacting with them. For instance, the Capital Guard in the image requires 11 reputation with the kingdom of power. Since my character's reputation is 7, my chance of succeeding in the inquiry check is only 85%.

If my reputation matched or exceeded the reputation required by the guard, I would have a 100% chance of success on the inquiry check. Having a low enough reputation will ensure that you will always fail the checks, or at least make you extremely unlikely to succeed.
You don't want to recklessly perform Path Actions, as this can sour your reputation. Each time you fail a Path Action, your reputation with that faction will decrease.
If you fail enough Path Actions, your reputation will be soured, and none of the NPCs will want anything to do with you. When this happens, you won't be able to interact with anyone.
How to Raise Your Reputation
Your reputation will automatically increase as you progress through the game. Completing main quests will increase your reputation, as will completing side quests.
You will see your reputation scores reflected in the Path Actions menu. At first, these scores will be at one, but completing missions for NPCs and helping the townsfolk will increase them.
How to Restore Your Reputation
If you have soured your reputation with one of the factions, you can easily restore it, but it will come at a cost, and that cost is a hefty financial one.
When your reputation has hit rock bottom, and you can't use Path Actions, you can always go to the local tavern to restore it. Talk to the barkeeper at the tavern, and you will get the option to restore your reputation.
The cost to restore your reputation is 1,000 Leaves. Which isn't too bad when you are late in the game, but it can be a hefty price at the start, so be careful about who you interact with.
Your reputation varies based on what town you are in, so keep in mind that if your reputation is soured in one town, it won't be in another. If your reputation is soured in multiple towns, you will need to go to the tavern in each town to restore your reputation in each.
