Octopath Traveler 0: Wealth, Power, Or Fame; Which Should You Choose?

After finishing the prologue in Octopath Traveler 0, you'll be presented with a choice between Wealth, Power, or Fame. It's a rather intimidating choice, but one that you'll have to make to proceed.

Picking one of them will shepherd you into the game proper, as well as on a path moving forward. It's one of the first big decisions you make, and it's one that comes fairly early.

If you're worried about making the wrong choice, however, don't fret about it too much. In this guide, I'll cover what consequences your choice has, as well as what you can do moving forward.

So, take a moment to read our guide, and I'll get you sorted straight away.

What Does Each Choice Do?

While it may seem like you're locking yourself into a certain style or story beat, the choice between Wealth, Fame, and Power is ultimately more rooted in flavor and NPC interactions.

Fame will allow you to have an easier time recruiting NPCs to join Wishvale. This is good for the early game, as getting multiple NPCs to come to Wishvale will really help long-term.

Wealth can help with haggling prices, and also make some items a bit cheaper moving forward. If you're focused on getting as many weapons or items as you can early on, Wealth may be the way to go.

Power will grant you the ability to battle NPCs to gain access to their items. This is also a good choice if you're looking to stock up early.

Are You Comitted To A Certain Path?

Thankfully, Square does not lock you into a particular path. No matter what you choose, you are not committed to that path in any way.

Once the prologue ends, and you've made your choice, the map is fairly open. You can more or less go anywhere.

That also means ignoring the path you've chosen. So, if you'd rather focus on rebuilding Wishvale, you're free to ignore whatever choice you made here.

If you decide midway through the Fame path that you want to do something different, the game will allow you to do that. At no point during Octopath Traveler 0 are you forced to follow the path you chose at the beginning.

Can You Change Paths?

You can absolutely change paths, and you can do so at any time. If you want to immediately switch paths after completing your choice, you're free to do so.

In order to finish Octopath Traveler 0, you need to complete all three paths anyway. So, ultimately, it doesn't matter if you choose one you don't want.

Switching paths is fairly easy. All you need to do is track a quest related to that path in the world map, then you'll be focused on that one.

In the end, there's no reason to worry about which path you choose. Aside from some minor stat bonuses, choosing either one will give you largely the same experience.
