The Game Awards 2025 has revealed numerous new titles from AAA publishers and indie developers alike, from Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to Bradley the Badger.

Many of these games feature brand-new narratives and twists on traditional gameplay mechanics, but one new title slated to debut in 2026 will merge two of the most popular genres and subgenres in a popular setting.

Decrepit was one of the first new games to be revealed during The Game Awards and is described as being a mix of Dark Souls-like combat, albeit in a first-person perspective, with the horror genre in a medieval setting.

What makes Decrepit stand out among its peers, however, is that it was developed by only one person from Sweden, Olof Hagelin of Jammerdal Games, and is the second game to be published by Three Friends.

Decrepit's Dungeon Nightmare

In Decrepit, players embody an unknown prisoner who wakes up to find themselves trapped in what's described as a forsaken castle filled with zombie-like inmates, guards, priests, and other monstrous foes.

Players can only carry one magical staff, one weapon, and one armor piece as they struggle to escape the castle, but, similar to Dark Souls and Bloodborne, every death causes them to respawn back in a different cell and the loss of their gear.

Four main playstyles are featured in Decrepit, including Mage, Warrior, Rogue, and Shaman, with each slain enemy dropping a piece of gear that can help players push through the forsaken castle.

Navigating the castle will be a challenge in itself, as there are no maps and no quest markers with challenging bosses guarding each new area.

Currently, Decrepit can be wishlisted on Steam with an early playtest scheduled to launch soon that fans can sign up for as of this writing.
