Eric Warner is a Journalist and Multimedia Producer based in New England with over seven years of experience producing stories for multiple print, online, radio, and video publications.

Eric has been a gaming fan ever since getting an original Xbox for Christmas in the early 2000's. From then on, he has become enthralled in the gaming world, spending thousands of hours in Halo multiplayer matches, climbing dozens of towers across the Assassin's Creed games, and 100% perfecting every single Horizon game to date.

When not writing for DualShockers Eric can typically be found playing games on his PS5, PC, and Xbox or reading sci-fi, horror, and fantasy books/comics.

Roughly three years after the launch of Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment has chosen to not only overhaul the first-person hero shooter's user interface but additionally rebrand the game as simply Overwatch.

This was announced during the Overwatch 2026 Spotlight with Game Director Aaron Keller stating, "This team is focused on continually delivering these great experiences for years to come. And with that, we realized Overwatch is a game that transcends any single number. So moving forward, we're dropping the 2 and continuing simply as Overwatch."

On top of this rebrand, Blizzard devs revealed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the new Overwatch will launch in the near future, though an exact release date hasn't been confirmed yet.

To keep fans entertained in the meantime, Blizzard has kicked off a brand-new season 1 for players called Conquest, which will be only part one of ongoing seasonal story content called Reign of Talon, complete with new in-game events, animated trailers, cosmetics, maps and heroes that will start being available on Tuesday, February 10th.

Overwatch's Season of Conquest

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Overwatch 1, Blizzard will be debuting not three, not five, but 10 new playable heroes throughout the year, with the first five becoming available for all players on February 10th.

The genre gets you used to just killing indiscriminately, but some also invite you to explore thoroughly.

These new heroes include:

  • Damage Hero and former Overwatch agent Emre
  • Damage Hero and sister to Wuyang, Anran
  • Support Hero and flying feline Jetpack Cat
  • Support Hero and member of the Hashimoto Clan, Mizuki
  • Tank Hero and VP of Vishkar Industries Domina

Anran will be the first of the new heroes for the public to try out through a hero trial starting Thursday, February 5th, until the season begins on February 10th.

A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the new Overwatch will launch in the near future, though an exact release date hasn't been confirmed yet.

However, these heroes won't be the only ones debuting with new abilities and gear, as every previous hero will receive new Sub-Roles with new distinct passive abilities, such as Damage Heroes gaining either the Recon, Flanker, Specialist, or Sharpshooter Sub-Roles.

Players can further take part in a new weekly meta event to align with either Overwatch or Talon to complete lore-related missions that will reward players aligned with the more successful faction.

Conquest won't all be doom and gloom, however, as the season will begin with a new cosmetic collaboration with Hello Kitty, giving players the opportunity to customize their heroes in Hello Kitty's signature cuddly fashion.
