If you want your household to earn money in Paralives, you'll need to get at least one adult Para a job. Teenage Paras are able to get part-time jobs in the service category, but they aren't going to be making much income, and their schedules are quite light since they're still students. Because of this, you'll need an adult Para to get a job if you want a decent income.

Just because the game is low-key doesn't mean the world can't have depth.
The actual job search interface in Paralives is incredibly similar to that of The Sims 4, but the way that job requirements work in Paralives can be a bit confusing at a glance.
Getting a Job
The easiest way to search for job openings is by using a smartphone, which all your Paras have by default. Choose the Para you want to get a job, interact with that Para, then use their phone and find the option to get a job. This brings up the job menu.
The jobs are sorted by category, but the openings change each day. This means that there might not be entry-level options when you first look in the category you want. In that case, you just have to wait until the next day and look again. You'll notice that the jobs have ranks, which you'll earn through good performance at your job. To start, you want a job at Rank 1 until you can build it up.
It's worth looking at the requirements for the higher-level jobs in the category you want your Para to work in, as you'll then be able to switch to those jobs later, and they usually pay more. For now, find a job that you meet the requirements for and take it. Once that's done, you can see it in the career tab, where it shows information like your pay and schedule. It's also where to see if you have sick days to use, or vacation days for events like having a baby.
Promotions in Paralives are a little different. For each day you have good work performance, you have a chance of getting an upgrade point for your career. You use this by going into the career tab, which will have a little exclamation point, and selecting the upgrade option. This gives you three choices regarding how you want to use the upgrade. The rank-up choice will give you a little bit of extra income, but it's necessary if you want to get higher-ranking jobs in the same category, which is basically how you get promotions.

Here's how you can customize the interior of your homes in Tomodachi Life
When you have enough ranks in that category, along with the skills listed in the job openings for higher positions, you'll be able to go into the job openings menu and switch to that better job. This is currently how you get promotions, unlike the Sims, where you're automatically pushed into the next job when you qualify. Paralives makes you be more active in getting promotions.
The upgrades can also give you perks that range in effect. Some will let you raise skills while at work, and others will give you a bonus in pay. They're all useful in your own way, so you want to pick based on what you need the most at that moment.
As a last note on the job system, depending on your household, you might have young children who are left alone if their parents' work schedules overlap. I tried to find a way to schedule a nanny like in The Sims. However, the problem will solve itself in Paralives, as the children will be automatically sent to daycare when the Paras able to care for them are working.
