Pokémon Go 'Precious Pals: Taken Over' Special Research and event guide

Pokémon Go’s "Precious Pals: Taken Over" event has kicked off, refreshing all the Team Go Rocket encounters and providing some specific rocket-oriented bonuses from Jan. 23-25.

This is the usual Team Go Rocket takeover event, meaning that Giovanni now has a different legendary Pokémon (Thundurus) and the Team Go Rocket leaders have changed their line-ups. The expected bonuses are also live: Team Go Rocket members appear more often and you can forget the move Frustration by using Charged TMs. Additionally, shadow Pokémon caught from one- and three-star raids will have a bigger variety of potential stats.

Note that this event is running alongside the regular "Precious Pals" event, so all the perks from that event are still ongoing. You can see the specific "Precious Pals: Taken Over" perks below, including the Collection Challenge.

Step 1 of 5

• Catch 15 Pokémon (5 Pinap Berries)
• Purify 2 shadow Pokémon (10 Poké Balls)
• Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket grunts (1 Mysterious Component)

Rewards: 1,500 XP, 500 Stardust, Nidoran-F encounter

Step 2 of 5

• Catch 20 Pokémon (5 Pinap Berries)
• Purify 5 shadow Pokémon (10 Great Balls)
• Defeat 6 Team Go Rocket grunts (3 Mysterious Components)

Rewards: 2,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, Nidoran-M encounter

Step 3 of 5

• Defeat Team Go Rocket leader Arlo (2,500 XP)
• Defeat Team Go Rocket leader Cliff (2,500 XP)
• Defeat Team Go Rocket leader Sierra (2,500 XP)

Rewards: 2,500 XP, 1,500 Stardust, 1 Super Rocket Radar

Step 4 of 5

• Find the Team Go Rocket Boss (10 Hyper Potions)
• Battle the Team Go Rocket Boss (10 Ultra Balls)
• Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss (6 Max Revives)

Rewards: 3,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust, Vulpix encounter

After defeating Giovanni in battle, you’ll get the opportunity to catch shadow Thundurus.

There's one Collection Challenge active during this event that requires the following:

• Catch a shadow Chespin
• Catch a shadow Fennekin
• Catch a shadow Froakie

Rewards: 6,000 XP, 6,000 Stardust, 1 Rocket Radar

Spinning a PokéStop during the event period may yield one of these tasks:
