Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

Without much fanfare, Capcom held its latest Capcom Spotlight broadcast this Thursday, March 5, bringing several updates from the publisher. However, one announcement in particular managed to steal the show – and for once, it wasn't about a delay.

Capcom has just provided a major update regarding the launch of Pragmata, its highly anticipated sci-fi title featuring two protagonists, Hugo and Diana. In a surprising turn of events, the game has actually been moved up and will now arrive a week earlier than planned, with a new release date set for April 17. It was previously scheduled for April 24.

The release date news was accompanied by a brand-new trailer, showcasing more of the gameplay where both characters must work together in combat. You can check it out below:

While an official reason for the shift wasn't publicly disclosed, it is a refreshing change of pace for a project that has seen its fair share of delays. Originally revealed back in 2020, Pragmata was initially planned for a 2022 release before being pushed to 2023, and eventually to 2026.

Recently, the game’s director, Cho Yonghee, stated that the primary cause for these delays was the complex balancing required for the dual-protagonist system. Since players control both Hugo and Diana, providing a seamless and balanced gameplay variety between the two required significant extra time in the oven, but it seems that these systems are finally set since we are pretty near the launch.

So, after six years of waiting and multiple delays, Capcom has decided to tweak the calendar one last time for Pragmata – only this time, it is to get the game into the hands of anxious fans a little sooner.

The timing of the shift is also quite curious from a strategic standpoint, when you consider that, by moving up to April 17, Capcom seems to be steering Pragmata away from a direct collision with Saros, the next highly anticipated title from Housemarque. Given the Finnish studio's reputation for Returnal (which is still my favorite PlayStation 5 exclusive, by the way), it is a move that makes a lot of sense to avoid a crowded release window, ensuring that Hugo and Diana's debut gets the spotlight all to themselves.
