It seems like just yesterday I was waiting in line for the midnight launch of the PS4 at my local GameStop. But in reality, it’s been well over a decade since Sony came out with the fourth iteration of its PlayStation home console. In that time, we’ve seen a number of amazing, ground-breaking titles come out for the system.

10 Best PS4 Games With High Replay Value

These PlayStation 4 titles are the best to come back to and replay to your heart's content.

Everything from action RPGs to shooters to puzzle games have graced many a PS4 disc drive and HD storage. There’s an almost uncountable amount of games that players have come to love. However, not all of them get your motor running right out of the gate. Still, there are plenty of games that you can have fun with the minute you grab your controller.

If you’re looking for an amazing game for the PS4 that’s fun right from the beginning, you’re in luck. Here are some of the best ones to try out if you want something that isn’t going to take forever to get to the good stuff.

10 Tetris Effect

Building Blocks

If there’s any game that’s easy to jump into right away and start having fun with, it’s a Tetris game. Tetris Effect is no exception. Just about everyone knows the gist by now: you drop shapes onto a board and try to make lines with them in order to clear pieces off said board. There’s not much to the core gameplay, but that simplicity is what makes it so accessible.

Tetris Effect goes the extra mile by adding insanely gorgeous visuals and a soundtrack that ranges from ethereal trance-like tunes to pounding electro beats. How could you not have fun with a game like Tetris Effect?

9 inFAMOUS Second Son

A Chip Off the Old Block

This open-world action-adventure game sets players in an imaginary version of Seattle, WA and lets them run wild with superpowers. inFAMOUS Second Son gets your boots on the ground and beating up bad guys with your special abilities that allow you to control certain elements like electricity and fire right off the bat.

The nice thing about games like Second Son is you’re free to explore openly right away and approach challenges as you see fit to unlock new abilities and upgrades. Second Son starts you off feeling powerful and only makes you feel stronger as you progress. It never really lets up on the action and keeps things fast-paced and fun for sure.

8 Monster Hunter World

Searching for Prey

Monster Hunter World Iceborne

While this wasn’t the first Monster Hunter title to ever be published, it was the arguably first in the series to make an impact outside its core fandom. World is definitely a game with deep mechanics and nuanced gameplay, but it gets you on your feet and hunting monsters right out of the gate before weighing you down with too many details.

Of course, Monster Hunter World gets even better when you squad up with your friends to take on a giant Diablos or Nergigante. The sheer variety of weapons and armors to craft and try out, along with a heavy supply of post-launch content, means there’s plenty to sink your teeth into if you want to give it a try now.

7 Horizon Zero Dawn

An Electric Future

Snowy Area In Horizon Zero Dawn (1)

PlayStation really seems to know what they’re doing when it comes to making amazing post-apocalyptic games. Horizon Zero Dawn’s interesting spin on a future where technology is seen as archaic knowledge and crazy robot animals stalk humans as prey showed a beautiful, yet deadly world. Using the main character Aloy’s skills to stealthily sneak past cyber-beasts and unlock lost tech was easy to get into and hard to put down.

Between the overgrown remains of civilization and the giant Tallneck beasts wandering the plains, Zero Dawn is also one of the most polished-looking PS4 games out there. If you’re looking for a single-player experience to sink your teeth into, it is definitely a great choice.

6 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

A Different Kind of Tomb Raider

Uncharted 4 A Thiefs End

All the Uncharted games have started off with a bang, and 4 was no different. The chaotic boat chase that started off Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End set the precedent for our last adventure with Nathan Drake and was a heck of a way to get going. Naughty Dog has always had a reputation for making some of the best PS4 games, and Uncharted 4 continued that trend.

If you enjoy adventure games and haven’t played the Uncharted series, I feel both sorry for you and a little jealous. Sorry you haven’t had a chance to enjoy it yet, and jealous that you’ll get to experience it for the first time. Not that you need to play the first 3 Uncharted games to enjoy 4, but you might as well while you’re at it.

5 Marvel’s Spider-Man

Web Swinging

Marvel's Spider Man

You start off your tenure as New York’s favorite web-head by taking on Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, and a squad of his goons. Spidey gets right into the action and then opens up NYC for you to web-swing through as you stop random crimes and take on a number of villains from the franchise's classic rogues gallery. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a game that lets you get lost in its environment and implores you to explore.

I’ve literally popped this game into my PS4 before just to run around the city climbing the tallest buildings I can find, jump off of them, and get that roller coaster-like sensation of speed. If I can have that much fun just doing silly little things, you can imagine how enjoyable the rest of the game is. If you haven’t checked out Marvel’s Spider-Man, it's one of best in the series. I highly recommend it. It’s truly one of the best games of its console generation.

4 Red Dead Redemption 2

A Cowboy Epic

Red Dead Redemption 2

When you think about the greatest games to come out during the PS4 console generation, Red Dead Redemption 2 is inevitably on the list. The rootin'-tootin' Wild West, open-world adventure game put you in your cowboy boots and hat, threw you on a horse, and dropped you on a snowy mountainside to begin your long and dramatic journey.

Between its breathtaking landscapes, robbing banks, and the spaghetti western-inspired melodrama, Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot that makes it a fantastically immersive experience. Like most of Rockstar’s releases, it’s a game that will have you enthralled from beginning to end.

3 Ghost of Tsushima

Way of the Samurai

Ghost of Tsushima

The dramatic ocean-side battle between the invading Huns and the samurai of Tsushima is a pretty wild way to start a game. Ghost of Tsushima is one of my personal favorite PS4 games for a number of reasons. For starters, I’m a sucker for a good samurai game, but then there’s the gorgeous hillsides of the Japanese island that look next-gen, and the impressive melee combat mechanics.

Tsushima also lets players choose to face threats head on or use a more stealthy approach to most situations, meaning you can be as clever or brutal as you want to be. Ghost of Tsushima has the aesthetics of a Kurosawa film and addictive open-world gameplay that Sucker Punch is known for. It is one of the most fun games you can get for your PS4 and enjoy right away.

2 Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Making Great Greater

Final Fantasy 7 remake

The iconic Avalanche raid on Shinra was a game changer back when the original Final Fantasy 7 came out for the PS1, but its age definitely shows when compared to the graphics and gameplay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game is a blend of action-based combat and the classic ATB system of the older Final Fantasy titles. Fans had to wait years to finally get their hands on it, and it was well worth the wait.

FF7 Remake is easily one of the best RPGs to ever come out. Not just on the PS4, but in general. If you’re looking for that kind of game, you really can’t do much better than taking it for a spin.

1 Grand Theft Auto 5

Get that Money

Grand Theft Auto 5 gameplay

Like many entries in the GTA series, Grand Theft Auto 5’s campaign started off with a bang by dropping you into the middle of a bank heist. After that, you were pretty much free to run around Liberty City committing whatever heinous crimes you saw fit. The ability to steal a car and run over a cop before you do anything to move the story along is one of the reasons that GTA 5 is such a fun game. You can just be a little chaos goblin or get to work.

In addition to the main game, GTA Online offers a similar experience to the main story in terms of getting out there and starting to mess around right away. And the ability to take on heists, races, side quests, and other mini-games with your friends is another thing that makes GTA 5 a title you can enjoy as soon as it loads up.
