Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
Capcom has officially confirmed that its latest horror title, Resident Evil Requiem, has shattered franchise records by selling over 5 million units faster than a Nemesis pursuit! The game, which stars Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashford, reached this staggering milestone in just five days after its February 27 release.
With this explosive start, the title has proven to be an unstoppable force, claiming the crown as the fastest-selling entry in the entire franchise and securing an immediate commercial victory for Capcom.
Hitting 5 Million Faster Than a Nemesis Pursuit
To put this speed into perspective, Resident Evil Requiem completely blew past the record previously held by the Resident Evil 4 remake.
According to Capcom’s reports and historical estimates, the Resident Evil 4 remake took nearly four months to reach 5 million sales, while the now third-place Resident Evil Village took nearly five months to hit that same mark. So the gap is quite staggering!
Resident Evil Requiem has shattered franchise records by selling over 5 million units
This record-breaking launch has pushed the entire Resident Evil franchise to a new height. While the series had already exceeded 183 million units sold as of December 31, 2025, Requiem’s debut has now propelled the cumulative total to at least 188 million units since the franchise debuted in 1996.

Digging a bit deeper into the numbers, it is also interesting to look back at Capcom’s famous “Platinum Titles” list that features the best-selling entries in franchise history and wonder just how high Requiem will climb in the coming months. For now, here is how the top of the leaderboard stands:
- Resident Evil 2 REMAKE – 16.8 Million
- Resident Evil 7: biohazard – 16.4 Million
- Resident Evil Village – 13.5 Million
- Resident Evil 4 REMAKE – 12.2 Million
- Resident Evil 3 REMAKE – 10.9 Million
With 5 million copies already in the hands of players in less than a week, Resident Evil Requiem is already halfway to catching up with the franchise's biggest giants. In our own coverage, we noted that “Resident Evil Requiem is everything that RE fans could want out of the next entry in the series and more.” You can check out our full review right here.
It is also worth noting that Resident Evil isn't the only horror icon making waves. Following the release of Silent Hill f, which launched as the best-selling game in that long-running series with over a million copies sold in less than a week, it is clear that the genre is having a massive resurgence! Between Capcom's record-breaking numbers and the return of Silent Hill, it really is a great time to be a horror fan.
