Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
It looks like Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom’s latest entry, has completely won over the gaming community! After shattering the franchise record for concurrent players on Steam, the horror title has just pulled off another massive feat in less than a week.
At the time of writing, the latest chapter of Resident Evil holds a staggering 9.5 average from the public on Metacritic, making it the second-highest-rated game by users on the platform, staying only behind the highly acclaimed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
This is literally a monumental achievement for the series, confirming that the fan seal of approval is stronger than ever – I mean, how could we not love a game with an older, hot version of Leon?
Jokes aside, to put this scenario into perspective, the highest-rated Resident Evil title previously was the original Resident Evil 4, which sat at a 9.1 average from the user scores, meaning that it is quite the leap!
Surpassing the Legend of Disney’s Cory In The House
However, this milestone takes on an even bigger meaning when you realize that Resident Evil Requiem has officially moved past one of the most famous fan-favorite titles of all time.
The latest chapter of Resident Evil holds a staggering 9.5 average from the public on Metacritic, making it the second-highest-rated game by users on major aggregation platforms
We aren't talking about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Metal Gear Solid, but rather Disney’s Cory in the House – yes, that old 2008 Nintendo DS title based on the That’s So Raven spin-off.
If you’re wondering why a DS game is competing with a brand-new survival horror, the answer is simple: it’s just a massive meme at this point. Every few years, the gaming community rallies on forums to boost Cory in the House just for the laughs, a ritual that has become a staple of internet culture.

While this “culture” is pretty hilarious, it also highlights just how easily user averages can be influenced on platforms that aggregate player opinions. Despite these sites not doing much to curb the joke, Resident Evil Requiem has managed to muscle its way past the meme to claim its spot near the very top.
Here are the current Top 10 standings according to fan acclaim on Metacritic:
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – 9.5
- Resident Evil Requiem – 9.5
- Disney’s Cory in the House – 9.3
- Metal Gear Solid – 9.3
- Silent Hill 2 – 9.3
- Metal Gear Solid 3 – 9.3
- The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt – 9.3
- Gran Turismo 4 – 9.2
- Chrono Trigger – 9.2
- Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams – 9.2
