One of the most iconic villains in the history of video games has fallen on hard times, as Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is now appearing in Japanese beer commercials.

Final Fantasy 7 is no stranger to merchandise, with Cloud and Sephiroth-branded cologne launching in the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 era. Things really ramped up when Final Fantasy 7 Remake was being promoted, with the characters appearing on all kinds of food and drinks, to say nothing of the usual high-priced premium merchandise on the Square Enix store, like jewelry and clothing.

Sephiroth might be an aloof homicidal maniac, but he's also extremely marketable. This is why he has appeared in a new commercial for lemon-flavored beer on the Asahi Beer YouTube channel. Anyone who has ever wanted to see Sephiroth breaking open a cold one after a long day of trying to become a god has their wish granted by this advert.

According to Famitsu, Sephiroth is drinking Future Lemon Sour Asahi Beet. The same Masamune blade that he used to wipe out Nibelheim and slay Cloud's mother is used to slice up some delicious lemons for the brew.

Those who are in the Roppongi Hills, Ooyane Plaza area can also visit a site based on the Seventh Heaven bar from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, called the Lemon's Heaven, where the drink can be purchased.

It's surprising that Sephiroth was chosen for this commercial, since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn't lacking iconic characters who could appear in a beverage commercial. If nothing else, the image of Sephiroth enjoying a nice cold beer is a hilarious one. It begs the question of whether he ever used to party and get drunk during his early years, as little is known about his life growing up in Soldier, save for what has been shown in Ever Crisis.
