Sonic the Hedgehog 4 cast, real title revealed ahead of 2027 release

At least you can expect some big Amy Rose representation

Paramount Pictures and Sega revealed the final title for next year's Sonic the Hedgehog 4: The film will now be known as Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and not Sonic CD, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I - Parabellum, or Amy the Hedgehog feat. Sonic.

For anyone disappointed by the lack of creativity in Hollywood movie sequel naming, there's plenty of good news. Returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 are actors Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Keanu Reeves as Shadow, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. They join the previously announced Kristen Bell, who will join the Sonic family as Amy Rose. Director Jeff Fowler also returns for his fourth time in the chair.

New to the cast are velvety voice actors Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade in undisclosed roles.

A new teaser trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 title reveal doesn't provide any hints about what to expect from the sequel, outside of a planned focus on Amy Rose and her big hammer joining the franchise. (She gets a pink "4" in the film's title treatment.) Otherwise, expect are anthropomorphic alien animals, Chaos Emeralds, and folks going fast.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will speed into movie theaters on March 19, 2027. Paramount also has a still-mysterious Sonic spinoff coming, which is planned for a Dec. 22, 2028 premiere.

The previous film in the franchise ended with a tease of Amy Rose and the arrival of Metal Sonic to the film franchise. The fate of Dr. Robotnik was unclear at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as was whether Carrey would return to the role, but now we know he's back. In what form, though? Still unclear.
