Sony is raising the retail price of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Portal worldwide, the company announced Friday. Starting April 2, the price of all PS5 consoles will go up by $100 to $150, depending on the model. The cost of the standard PlayStation 5 is now $649.99. The high-end PlayStation 5 Pro, which launched at $699.99, will now cost $899.99.

The PS5 originally launched at $499.99 back in November 2020. The PlayStation maker hiked prices in the U.S. last August, raising the price of the standard PS5 to $549.99. Prior to that price increase, Sony Interactive Entertainment had raised prices in Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

Here are the new prices for PS5 consoles starting next week:

U.S.

  • PS5 – $649.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99
  • PS5 Pro – $899.99

U.K.

  • PS5 – £569.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition – £519.99
  • PS5 Pro – £789.99

Europe

  • PS5 – €649.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition – €599.99
  • PS5 Pro – €899.99

Japan

  • PS5 – ¥97,980
  • PS5 Digital Edition – ¥89,980
  • PS5 Pro – ¥137,980

Sony attributes the latest price increase for the PS5 lineup to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape."

"We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide," said Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony is also bumping up the price of its PlayStation Portal remote player. The following prices for the PS Portal will go into effect on April 2 as well.

  • U.S. – $249.99
  • U.K. – £219.99
  • Europe – €249.99
  • Japan – ¥39,980

That's a $50 price increase for the Portal, which launched in 2023.

Analysts expected gaming hardware prices to rise in 2026 as manufacturers face rising costs from inflation, tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, and component shortages.
