Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord has already become a sensational hit for Star Wars fans, drawing 4.1 million viewers shortly after its premiere (and perhaps unintentionally boosting the numbers of another Star Wars TV series in the process). Though season 2 was already confirmed before Maul’s new adventure even debuted, the hype and viewership around the new animated series prove that the decision was the right one. However, there’s just one question: what will the Maul - Shadow Lord season 2 release date be?

Speaking exclusively to The Direct, Maul actor Sam Witwer revealed more about when Maulheads can expect to see the unluckiest Sith Lord slice and dice his way onto our screens once more in a galaxy far, far away.

"I know when it's coming out, but it's not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too, too long. I think I am forbidden from saying what I know, but we are working on it. We've been working on it for a while, and it's interesting," Witwer shared.

Witwer’s statement makes it clear that at least two seasons of episodes following Maul were always part of the plan, and while the last two episodes of season one have yet to drop, what we’ve seen so far gives fans plenty of room to speculate on what a second season may look like for Maul.

In episode 8, titled “The Creeping Fear,” Maul and his forces were forced to flee with their tails between their legs after the Empire flushed them out of their hidden sanctum in the bowels of Janix. Wounded, Maul seemingly has no choice but to rely on Dryden Vos, the leader of the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn.

Solo-watchers will already know the significance of Vos, but even for those who don’t, it’s clear the Empire’s net is closing in on Maul. With Emperor Palpatine wanting him dead, Maul will need allies.

Who those allies could be varies greatly. We know that Maul eventually ends up having significant ties with Vos and Crimson Dawn, but Maul’s manipulation of Order 66 Jedi Padawan Devon Izara may also prove valuable in explaining how he remained hidden from the Empire long enough for the events of Star Wars: Rebels. If not in the last two episodes, that will almost certainly occur in Maul - Shadow Lord season 2.
