Like the Epic Games Store, Steam routinely makes unexpected games available for free. Currently on offer is Arabian Gulf.

Arabian Gulf is a survival game set in a desert where you'll scour the levels in search of treasure. You'll engage in "intense combat" against zombie-like enemies, according to the game's official description. Admittedly, the few Steam reviews available don't paint the prettiest picture of Arabian Gulf, but a free game's a free game. It's free until Sunday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. EST

Definitely worth checking out, however, is XCOM 2. Firaxis Games' tactical strategy game is free to play until Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. EST. You'll lead a military resistance force in turn-based battles against alien invaders while trying to keep your soldiers alive, who can be permanently killed in the game. If you want to keep XCOM 2 after the free weekend, it's discounted to $2.99 until Feb. 19.

Also playable for free is Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. You can check out the VR game until Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. EST free of charge. It's a strategic MOBA featuring "real-time, hex-based tactile battles" that can be played competitively or against the game's AI to test out your skills.

Rounding out the weekend's free game trials is Hellcard, playable for free until Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. EST and discounted to $7.50 until Feb. 11. It's a roguelike deckbuilder that can be played solo or via co-op. It places a heavy emphasis on monster placement as you'll have to be tactical with your decisions in battle to take down demonic enemies.
