It's been speculated and seen in leaks — but it wasn't until previews for Avengers: Doomsday began showing last night during Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings that it was confirmed: Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers, and now he's a proud papa.

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Avengers film features Evans returning as Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, a mantle currently held by Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), according to Variety.

The teaser kicks off on a quiet farm, with Steve rolling up to his house on a motorcycle as a soft piano takes on the “Avengers” theme. His blue helmet gives off classic Cap vibes, and he even pulls out his old suit to look back on it for a moment. Then he’s shown holding a newborn, smiling proudly. The teaser wraps with “Steve Rogers will return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’” followed by a countdown clock set to hit zero exactly a year before the movie drops on Dec. 18, 2026. What's more is that other character-focused teasers are supposed to pop up in the coming weeks as well.

We haven't seen Steve Rogers since he created a branched timeline at the end of Avengers: Endgame to be with his beloved Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). He gets to live a full life with her, even having a child, apparently, before he eventually returns to the main timeline as an old man to give Wilson Captain America's shield as a passing of the torch. After Steve vanished and ended up frozen in ice in the first Captain America, Peggy grew old but never stopped loving him. Thanks to the Quantum Realm’s time-travel tech, the two finally got the chance to reunite, get married, and spend a lifetime together across the decades.

Steve refused to tell Sam and Bucky what he's been up to all these years, but maybe he was hiding the secret that he's eventually going to have to come back to defeat a Doctor Doom that looks an awful lot like Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) at some point.

I guess we'll all have to find out what's going on with Cap, his baby, and if the baby is superpowered when almost every actor ever to play a Marvel character returns in Avengers: Doomsday late next year.
