One week before Nintendo and Illumination's release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the film's creators have decided to reveal one of its major cameos early. The reveal will certainly reignite speculation that the "Nintendo Cinematic Universe" encapsulates more than just Super Mario characters (and Pikmin).

On Thursday, Nintendo and Illumination confirmed that the rumors were true: Fox McCloud from the Star Fox games will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It's currently unconfirmed just how big Fox's role will be in Mario's new adventure, but he sure looks like a major character. In a teaser released on the Mario movie's Instagram account, we see Fox McCloud posing dramatically in front of his Arwing while an Ukiki looks on in adoration.

Let The Super Smash Bros. Movie rampant speculation begin! Er, continue!

Nintendo and Illumination haven't yet revealed who will be voicing Fox McCloud, but don't expect a Donald Glover-as-Yoshi-caliber surprise. We also don't know officially if Star Fox Team members Falco, Slippy, and Peppy will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

It was previously confirmed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature some characters who are not typically thought of as part of the Super Mario Bros. universe, including Pikmin and Nintendo's ROB, but just how far Nintendo wants to stretch the boundaries of Mario canon.

We'll know much more soon. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie opens in movie theaters on April 1.
