The first trailer for Jane Schoenbrun's upcoming horror comedy Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma has arrived, revealing the rising director's unconventional take on the summer camp slasher subgenre. While short on details, the trailer mixes the violent visuals that fans of horror classics like Friday the 13th will be familiar with, while also incorporating a dream-like vibe that seems heavily influenced by David Lynch. The result feels like something both completely new and extremely familiar from a director known for blurring genres and formats.

Schoenbrun previously wrote and directed the creepypasta internet thriller We're All Going to the World's Fair and the coming-of-age psychological horror I Saw the TV Glow, both of which explored the relationship between adolescence and technology through the lens of horror.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma seems like a departure with its adult cast, including Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, and its roots in '80s horror. The film stars Einbinder as a queer director put in charge of the latest entry in an in-universe slasher series called Camp Miasma. The director decides to cast the "final girl" from the original film, a reclusive actress played by Anderson. Based on the trailer, the story gets both violent and sexy from there.

In a statement last year announcing the movie, Schoenbrun described Camp Miasma as a "sleepover classic."

“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid," Schoenbrun said. "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store."

The cast also includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), Eva Victor, Zach Cherry (Severance), Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live), Patrick Fischler (Mad Men, Lost), Dylan Baker (Spider-Man 3), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), Quintessa Swindell (Black Adam), Kevin McDonald (The Kids in the Hall), and Jack Haven as Little Death. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma arrives in theaters on August 7, 2026.
