Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
Up to this point, the modding community is stronger than ever, and there are more mods out there than our own imaginations can keep up with! But have you ever imagined what a crossover between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Pokémon would actually look like?
Yeah, me neither, but apparently someone did, since this brand-new mod for Rockstar Games’ open-world Western masterpiece takes that exact idea and puts it into practice in the most literal way possible.
Gotta Catch 'Em All in The Old West
Created by Blurbs, a popular content creator, Twitch streamer, and software developer known for creating "nonsense" comedy mods for popular video games, this project literally transforms Red Dead Redemption 2 into a Pokémon-style RPG.
This means that yes, you can expect the core systems that make the Nintendo franchise so iconic, including different Pokémon to catch, move sets to unlock and manage, and even Gym Leaders to defeat.

The modder shared the unusual concept in a YouTube video, showing Arthur Morgan exploring the Wild West in search of animals to capture with a period-appropriate Pokéball. And he can even name his catches and battle his way through the entire van der Linde gang.
Oh, and the mod adds that classic battle HUD from the Pokémon franchise to encounters with wild animals and other "trainers," which makes the whole thing look ridiculously hilarious! You can check it out by yourself right here:
As it stands, there are already many animals available to catch, including horses, dogs, fish, squirrels, snakes, rats, alligators, and even lions. But, unfortunately, the mod is not yet available for the general public to download and play.
At the end of his video, Blurbs explained that he doesn't usually release his mods because they require multiple programs working together. However, it seems that this mod touched his heart, since he decided to try to clean up the code to release it in the near future.
[Morgan] can even name his catches and battle his way through the entire van der Linde gang.
“I don't usually release the mods I make because they're a chaotic mess and involve multiple programs working together, and this one is no different,” he explains in the video. “Regardless, I am going to try to release this one. I will need some time to clean the code up, but this specifically works in tandem with streaming software. So, technically, you can play it without streaming. You just have to have OBS installed.”
For now, we will just have to wait for the official release, which will be announced on Blurbs' social media channels and his YouTube community posts. But you can play the original Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the meantime. Or you can even catch up with the fan theories, which have been wild since a new mystery has been discovered.
