Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

This one is for the nostalgic FPS fans out there! It seems Valve has finally listened to the community’s pleas and brought back the original Counter-Strike: Global Offensive era.

In a surprising (and also silent) move, the game simply reappeared on Steam with a shiny, new page this Tuesday, March 3, without any prior announcement.

This means that players can now download the first CS:GO as a standalone application. Before this news, the original version of the game was only accessible as a “Legacy” branch tucked away within the Counter-Strike 2 settings. It was a bit of a hassle to set up, for sure, but it looks like those days are finally over.

One strange detail is that the CS:GO’s page is currently “unlisted” – at least at the time of writing – but it remains public to a certain extent, meaning you can access it through this link and also see how it looks in the image right below:

However, players shouldn't expect the full 2012 experience just yet. Some users are reporting that upon opening the game, a message appears stating that CS:GO has not been supported by Valve since January 2024. And the game does not connect to the official CS:GO network, meaning online matches and private servers appear to be offline for now.

Currently, the only available options are practicing with bots, the training course, and workshop maps. Valve has yet to comment publicly on this sudden “reactivation,” leaving fans wondering if more features are on the way.

Valve has finally listened to the community’s pleas and brought back the original Counter-Strike: Global Offensive era.

It is worth remembering that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive originally launched in 2012 and was officially replaced by CS2 in 2023. Since then, the two titles shared the same App ID, making it impossible to download the old version as a separate entity – until today.
