Tau Ceti IV is opening its doors permanently
Image: BungieThe Marathon release time is almost here, and after a highly successful Server Slam, which saw a peak of over 140,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, fans are champing at the bit to return to Tau Ceti IV and start their runner career properly. Unfortunately, progression will reset so you'll need to start all over again if you did partake in the pre-release playing window, but that's just a one-off, as everything from here on out is permanent.
Knowing exactly what time Marathon will release in your time zone is important if you want to jump in from the very start though, so here are all the details on the Marathon release time and date on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
Marathon release time in your time zone
Bungie has not provided official confirmation yet on the Marathon release time, but all the signs are pointing towards 1 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 5. That time is the same as when the Server Slam went live (and finished), and over on the game's official subreddit, a user who has pre-ordered Marathon on PS5 confirms there is a countdown timer that finishes at the same time.
Here's how that time looks in other time zones:
- 10 a.m. PST for the west coast of North America
- 1 p.m. EST for the east coast of North America
- 3 p.m. BRT for Brazil
- 6 p.m. GMT for the United Kingdom
- 7 p.m. CET for western Europe
- 3 a.m. JST on Friday, Mar 6 for Japan
- 5 a.m. AEDT on Friday, Mar 6 for the east coast of Australia
If Bungie provides official communication, we'll update this article with the confirmed times.
Can you preload Marathon?
Bungie has confirmed via the official Marathon Discord server that preloading will be available, despite it not being possible for the Server Slam. However, at the time of writing, the option still isn't available on Steam, and reports claim it also isn't possible on console yet.
Once preloading does become available — presumably within the next 24 hours — you'll just need to find the game in your library (or on the storefront if you haven't pre-ordered yet), then select the option to install. If you don't get around to preloading though, try not to worry; as the Xbox Store lists the approximate file size as 22.6 GB. We can expect Marathon to be around the same size on every platform.
