Of course, there are also resources that you need special tools to obtain. These tools are the fishing rod, axe, pickaxe, and shovel, and if you want to interact with any resource nodes, you will need to get them.

Here is everything you need to know about getting and handling tools in No Rest for the Wicked, so you can start collecting more resources.

No Rest for the Wicked Tools Guide Using Shovel

Most of the drops in No Rest for the Wicked are randomized. This means that you won't have any clue what items you are getting most of the time.

Luckily, there are a few locations at the beginning of the game where you can go to get some guaranteed drops. These drops will give you the basic tools needed to collect resources.

Items around the world are marked by blue nodes that you can interact with. Keep this in mind while searching for these tools.

Keep in mind that loot is shared in No Rest for the Wicked. This means that friends in your world can pick these items up instead.

Copper Pickaxe

Unless you manage to pick up a pickaxe from a fallen foe, you will need to go after the Copper Pickaxe that is resting in the tower to the north of the Saltborn Tower Whisper. You can access the fort by following the path to the northeast of the Whisper.

Once inside, locate the tower with the archer. Here, you will find a standard Copper Pickaxe. This is the tool you will want to get your hands on Saltstone, as it is used to gather resources from nodes of ore.

Fishing Rod

Speaking of the Saltborn Tower Whisper, you can locate the standard fishing rod just outside the tower where the Whisper is located. There are usually enemies waiting around the area, so you will need to take them out first.

Once you have the fishing rod, you will be able to start fishing in the various water locations around the map.

Copper Axe

After the opening cutscene, you will be shipwrecked on the beach. From here, you can head to the northeast to find a standard Copper Axe.

Any axe will allow you to chop down trees in the area. Materials from this will be pine, birch, and spruce wood.

Copper Shovel

The shovel is the only tool that does not have a fixed spawn location in the early hours of the game. To obtain this tool, you will instead need to wait until you reach Sacrament and purchase it from Fillmore the blacksmith.

The tool doesn't cost a lot, but it will run you about one Silver. Of course, there is also the chance that you can get lucky and get a shovel from a chest or a fallen enemy, so keep an eye out.

Shovels are used on loose dirt locations to obtain various items and materials.

Repairing and Upgrading Your Tools

No Rest for the Wicked Tools Guide Inventory

These tools have a set durability and they will eventually break. Because of this, you will need to get them repaired. There are two methods of doing this.

First, you can use Repair Powder. This is an item that you can get from fallen enemies, chests, and purchase from NPCs, and it is used to restore durability to all the items you have equipped.

Second, you can simply get your items repaired by Fillmore in Sacrament. Depending on how many items are damaged, this could cost you a fair amount of coin.

Most of the items that you equip on your character can be upgraded, and while tools have different versions, you cannot upgrade your existing tools. Instead, you will need to find new tools with greater durability.

No Rest for the Wicked Tools Guide Using Pickaxe

Most of the tools operate in the same way, with the key exception being the shovel. Whenever you use your axe, pickaxe, or shovel, you will see a circle appear.

This circle will fill green, leading to a small red section. The goal is to press the interact button when the bar reaches the red section.

When timed correctly, you will hit the resource perfectly. Each resource has a health bar that depletes as you strike it with your tool. When the bar is depleted, you will get the resources.

Fishing works slightly differently. When you cast your line, you will not see a prompt. Instead, you will need to wait until the line starts to move, and you get a bite.

When your line gets a bite, press the interact button to reel in the fish or item you have caught. Fishing can be a bit awkward since the timing is weird. Keep this in mind and try not to press the button too early.
