Sim racing is an incredible subworld of video gaming to get into if you haven't yet made the jump. However, it's also a very intimidating one at the same time. New gear, high prices, and entire new ecosystems and platforms to learn keep the barrier of entry high in many cases.

Interview: Asetek CEO André Eriksen on Sim Racing, Affordability, Access, and Xbox

Some great insight from André Eriksen of Asetek, gathered at the SimRacing Expo 2026 in Charlotte.

One company I spoke to at the SimRacing Expo in Charlotte, however, wants to shake things up in this regard. Asetek Racing has started to take pride in being on the forefront of high-level sim racing gear that both doesn't break the bank compared to competitors, and also is more compatible than others in a few key factors.

The freshly revelaed Initium DD10 wheelbase is a great example of this, so let's talk about it.

The DD10 Joins Asetek's Entry Level Initium Product Line

Initium DD10 Asetek

Asetek Racing has several tiers of sim racing gear, with the highest of the high-end likely outpricing many of us regular-type aspiring racers. That's where the Initium line of products comes in, which serves as Asetek's cheapest option, but still one that performs like quality, professional sim racing gear. In fact, all in on the most basic, but fully built-out rig you can get with Asetek Initium runs around $1,000 USD, much cheaper than most of the competition.

The Initium DD10 Wheelbase is joining the Initium family, and while the price is yet to be revealed ahead of its Q4 2026 release date, the fact that it's Initium implies that it will still be a more affordable option in the world of sim racing wheelbases. Here are some more notes and specs to consider with the DD10:

  • 10 Nm of torque, upgradeable to 14 Nm
  • USB passthrough: compatible with Asetek Racing wheels and (a large range) of third-party wheels
  • RaceHub software
  • PC and Xbox compatible

The Partnership With Xbox, and Other Accessible Options

Of all those above bullet points, the most interesting tidbit to many of you will be the note that it's fully compatible on both PC and Xbox. When I spoke with André Eriksen, Asetek's CEO, in Charlotte about this, he made it very clear that he understands console gaming is much more accessible and straightforward than PC gaming, so it's high time a premium sim racing brand starts catering to this audience. The DD10 seems ready to do so.

In a provided Asetek press release, Eriksen also says:

“DD10 removes the barriers that have held sim racers back: real direct drive performance, the freedom to use the wheels you already own, and compatible for Xbox. It is the most accessible way into the Asetek Racing experience."

It's also highly commendable to me that Asetek is designing this base to be used with a variety of other steering wheels too, not just Asetek Racing-brand models. Again, this points to real, consumer-friendly thinking, which lowers the barrier of entry even further to prospective buyers.

This also opens the door for premium sim racing integration with beloved Xbox racing games like Forza, while also still being compatible with Asetek's large catalog of PC-focused sim racing titles as well via the RaceHub.

Full spec breakdowns, pricing details, and chances to go hands-on with the DD10 wheelbase are all coming soon, so stay tuned for more information leading up to the next SimRacing Expo in Frankfurt, Germany this October.
