The clock is ticking on Doomsday... but will it be to death or glory for the MCU?

After Marvel Studios released its latest teaser trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film at the end of the year, its YouTube handle also uploaded a Doomsday Clock counting down the seconds, minutes, hours, and months until the film's premiere in December.

Marvel Studios has had fans on trailer watch for a month, with teasers initially screening ahead of viewings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. At first, it was Steve Rogers revealing he's a baby daddy now, then we had a super serious look at sad-dad Thor Odinson. Next, we finally got an official glimpse of the X-Men teaser that leaked online, featuring James Marsden reprising his role as Cyclops, firing his percussive beams in full Jim Lee-inspired costume. Oh yeah, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as Magneto and Professor X were there, too.

Now that Marvel has released a Doomsday Clock teaser, it may signal the end of these different character teasers, since we've checked in with the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four in the latest drop. Although the film boasts a cast of over 27 characters, with more surprise announcements on the way, this may just be the tip of the iceberg for character teasers.

Whether this level of publicity and promotion is doing more harm than good — especially with diminishing returns from each new teaser for a film still nearly a year away — is another discussion.

The next Avengers movie stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside a host of returning Marvel actors, such as Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier. It's an attempt by Marvel Studios to revitalize its once-dominant franchise after the diminishing returns of phases 4 and 5. The Russo brothers also return to direct.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18 in theaters.
