It's too hot out, so go sit in a dark room for two hours watching one of the year's best films

Backrooms is one of 2026's best films and, with more than $330 million made at the box office, it has become A24's highest-grossing film to date. If you've yet to check it out yet, the wait has paid off: A24 will release an extended version of Backrooms in theaters on July 3.

Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition includes 15 minutes of "theatrically exclusive" footage, implying you won't be able to see the new footage when Backrooms starts streaming or when it gets released on disc. Instead of deleted or extended scenes being inserted throughout the film, the extended edition will include "post-credit bonus footage from Kane Parsons." It'll run for just over two hours.

The AMC listing for Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition doesn't state how long the extended version will play in theaters for. At least for one AMC near me in New York City, I see showtimes through Tuesday, July 9.

Backrooms, based on a series of YouTube videos inspired by an old creepypasta, has become a horror sensation. It's the second-highest-grossing horror film of the year (behind Obsession). With its re-release, it will likely eclipse the latest Star Wars film in terms of box office revenue.

We called Backrooms "the best horror movie since Weapons" when reviewing it. Polygon chatted with director Kane Parson, who just turned 21 (and can now legally pop a bottle of champagne to toast to the film's success) about potential sequels, the film's ending, and all those dead birds.

Already seen Backrooms (and Obsession) and are looking for your next spooky watch? Have we got a list for you, friend.
