Family Guy's Stewie is getting his own spinoff series

Remember when Family Guy was canceled in 2000, only to return from the dead and become a global cultural phenomenon? Now, 25 years later, the satirical comedy show has another spinoff on the way from Fox: this time focusing on the evil toddler genius, Stewie.

The news comes from Deadline, which shared that Fox has given the spinoff, simply titled Stewie, a two-season order. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, it is set to debut on Fox sometime during the 2027-2028 season and will stream the day after for international audiences on Disney Plus and Hulu.

Seth MacFarlane, who voices the terrible toddler in Family Guy, will reprise his role in Stewie. MacFarlane will also serve as executive producer alongside Kara Vallow and Family Guy writer-producer Kirker Butler, with Butler also working as Stewie's showrunner.

Stewie will run alongside Fox's other flagship comedy series, such as Family Guy, American Dad (both created by MacFarlane), Bob's Burgers, and The Simpsons.

The new animated comedy will follow Stewie's adventures in preschool as he explores time and space. That the show centers on Stewie enrolling in a new preschool after being kicked out of his old one. Unfortunately, this new preschool isn't all that great, despite reportedly including a 75-year-old class turtle. Here's how Deadline describes it: "Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure."

The series occurs in its own world, and will not impact Stewie's story on Family Guy, though there will be references to the original series. While an episode count has not been confirmed, Deadline reports it will be "slightly less than 15 episodes per season."

This isn't the first time that Family Guy has inspired a spinoff, with The Cleveland Show debuting on Fox in 2009. While it was well-received by fans, it lasted only four seasons. Will Stewie have more staying power? Only time will tell.
