Superman's father, Jor-El, is usually depicted as a scientist. (Sometimes he encourages his son to assemble a harem and take over the world.) But in a newly announced Elseworlds comic book series, DC is making Superman's daddy a new version of the Man of Steel with Superman: Father of Tomorrow.

The series, which will take place outside of main DC continuity, follows an adult Jor-El after he crash lands in Kansas following the destruction of Krypton. Essentially, it takes Superman's traditional origin and grafts it on to his adult father.

"As he adjusts to life on Earth, Jor-El discovers he can help his new home not only with his powers, but with his brilliant mind. This is the story of a Man of Steel and Science—and the world he saves," reads the official description.

Superman: Father of Tomorrow launchs on May 27 from writer Kenny Porter and artist Danny Earls.

Check out the main cover by Danny Earls and two variant covers by Gabriel Hardman and Riley Rossmo below as well as some unlettered preview pages:

Like DC's Black Label books, Elseworlds stories aren't considered official canon, freeing up creators to take established characters in wild and weird directions. Batman, for example, tracked down Jack the Ripper in Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola's Gotham by Gaslight one-shot in 1989. The imprint published sporadically over the years, and made a return in big 2024 with a new slate of titles, like Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age and Green Lantern: Dark.

Father of Tomorrow isn't the only upcoming Elseworlds title on the way. Also announced is Supergirl: Survive from writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan and artist Rod Reis, releasing June 3. It'll star a teenage Kara who flees a General Zod-controlled Krypton with her baby cousin, Kal. Supergirl: Survive is a "tale of two refugees bound by blood, trauma, and hope."

The main cover below is from Rod Reis, with variants by Taurin Clarke and Guillem March. Check out preview pages, too, which show off Kara and Kal racing away from Krypton.

Last up is Dark Knights of Steel 2. Writer Tom Taylor returns to his swords-and-sorcery reimagining of DC's heroes, and he's joined by Otto Schmidt on art. No plot details were revealed, but it'll launch July 15, and you can see its main cover by Yasmine Putri below.
